Forever Mentone tells the story of a journey to Mentone in California, the alter ego of Menton in southeast France where Paul Garcin is from. Located an hour and a half north of Los Angeles, this suburban town of 8,600 residents creates its own mythology by mirroring Menton: streets are named Nice Avenue and Via Antibes, Mentone’s orange replaces Menton’s famous lemon, and vintage postcards illustrate houses with sea views, despite the town being surrounded by mountains. Forever Mentone is a blend of lecture, stand-up comedy, and concert, offering the audience a whimsical and imaginary road trip. In this performance, Paul Garcin uses visual and sound recordings of his journey, his musical compositions, and his reflections on his biography.
Graduated from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Nantes Saint-Nazaire (2019), Paul Garcin lives and works in Aubervilliers. In 2023, he debuted his first performance, “Forever Mentone”, following residencies at Maison Artagon, Point Ephémère, and TU-Nantes. Embracing a collaborative ethos, he is also a co-founder of KimPetrasPaintings.
